Instead the director creates his own little world and he does a wonderful job at it. As with THE WARRIORS, both films were set in an unknown future but the films don't look like science fiction movies or the type of futures that they offer.

I think a lot of credit has to go to Hill and his eye as he certainly knows how to build up an atmosphere and make you feel the locations that you're in. STREETS OF FIRE might not be the director's best film but it's certainly a good one and one with many fun elements to it.
What you've basically got here are elements of THE WARRIORS with a pinch of THE SEARCHERS thrown in but of course it's surrounded by a 50's rock and roll vibe. The film starts off with a title card call this a rock and roll fable set sometime during the future. Walter Hill's string of hits came to a crashing halt with STREETS OF FIRE but thankfully home video was right around the corner and the film eventually found it audiences and turned into a cult favorite. The police can't do anything so Ellen's ex-boyfriend Tom Cody (Michael Pare) agrees to try and save her. Before long she is kidnapped by Raven Shaddock (Willem Dafoe), the leader of a motorcycle gang. This movie came out on HD-DVD (remember that?), and so I'm sure that's why it's not yet available on Blu-ray, but I can wish, right? Well worth the prices being paid for on e-bay.I just wish this was out on Blu-Ray as the scenes can be dark, and the music-video portions of this movie would look even better on hi-def. Rick Moranis and Amy Madigan also play great rolls as this movie keeps you chuckling from thier quipes at each other while containing enough action to never bore you. The movie has great 80's-type music throughout that is set in a sort of Music-video that incorporates into the film. The twist the "old flame" is Ellen Aim (a young Diane Lane in a great role for her), who has become a rock star and has been kidnapped by a gang of bikers led my a young Willem DaFoe (also a great role for him.one of his first big parts). Set in the 50's, this is a classic story of the quiet, somewhat misunderstood boyfriend (Michael Pare' of Eddie and the Cruisers) who comes back at his sister's urging to rescue an old flame.

Rick Moranis also stars as (Billy Fish), He is hilarious as her fast talking wise cracking manager. Pare' as (Tom Cody)pulls off the daring rescue. Ellen Aim (Lane)gets kidnapped by The Bombers (led by Defoe)while performing on stage.Tom Cody (Michael Pare')must come home and rescue her, an d enlists help from McCoy (Amy Madigan)a prior military soldier, to steal her back from Raven Shaddock, and The Bombers. Good rock n roll bands, bright neon at night, a REALLY pretty girl that OWNS the stage, badass motorcycles, fighting, guns, vintage cars,AND Willem Defoe.
My friends on base and I loved it because it has EVERYTHING WE LIKE in it. They are BOTH nothing short of amazing as young actors in this movie, "Streets Of Fire". It is an unforgettable movie if you are seriously addicted to performances by either Diane Lane, or Willem Defoe. The reason I bought it was simple, It was my favorite movie in my early 20's while I served at McClellan AFB, in Sacramento, California. Streets Of Fire is still ALOT OF FUN to watch.
